For filing design patents

In addition to designs that cover an entire article, there are also many partial design applications to protect only certain parts of an article that feature ingenuity or that require protection.
Design patents were conventionally limited to creations related to the shape of “articles” based on a narrow definition of that term. However, recent revisions to the law newly allow protections for the exteriors and interiors of buildings, as well as for images that are not directly related to articles (such as images used for controlling a device in a GUI).
